During makar sankranti time a big festival held here,lacks of pilgrims come here for Holy bath. Here The Ganga end her current and jump into Bay of Bengal. Mesmerising and spiritually charged atmosphere during the Gangasagar Mela. I am extremely lucky to have been able to take the dip on Makar Sankranti. The administration has left no stone unturned to ensure the best amenities and support for all visitors.

Excellent arrangements everywhere. Cleanliness is maintained. Kudos to the entire team and the Administrators. No crowd, Fresh air, no pollution over all beauty of sea n place of old Historys Blissful. Nice place.. WB government did lots of work but after that they forget to maintain.. Now its a tourist place and spirituality is missing what was there in years ago..

Its a very neat and clean place, well maintained and nicely decorated temple area. But amenities are very limited to stay here. Very serene and calm place to visit but, during Makar Sankranti heavy rush of devotees takes place. It is now a great tourist attraction. Tourist and pilgrims joined from all over India even abroad. Good tourist facilities.

I was very happy to visit this place, because I have visited here at a young age. The old saying goes, You must come to life once and visit Gangasagar at least once, because Gangasagar can only happen once.

Nice with lots of fresh air and just loved it the way how to air always is blowing throughout the area just awesome.. My mother land. Love you. Very impressive steps made by the local authority during mela Everything in mela was well planned , well organized , and behavior of police was quite hearthy , worthy of praise.

Temple no more sinks in water, its open available to visit all year. Just that in season you will also have fun fair. Thats Jatra. Located on sagar island, Kolkata. You have to travel around 32 kms to reach ganga sagar from Bus Stop. Avoid TAXI because it is too expensive. Jai Ganga maiya. One of greatest holy place for devoted Hindus.

Then the grandfather Brahma admonished him to go to forest and said he would have a son, who is part of Lord Vishnu. Then Kardam Munis had a son whose name was Kapil Muni. After the birth of Kapil Muni, Kardam Muni went to the forest for austerities. Kapil Muni stayed with his mother and preached Saankhya Yog to her.

Devahooti got Moksh after that preaching. Once he was sitting in the tomb of his monastery, that 60, sons of King Sagars came there in search of his father Yagya Horse, they tied it with a tree near it, so they thought that Kapil Muni had stolen it. They started talking to him something bad. Kapil Muni opened his eyes and looked at them and saw that they were all ashes.

Then the King agars sent his grandson Anusham to search for his 60, sons and Yagya Horse. He followed the footsteps of his uncle and appeared at Kapil Munis Asaram. He saw a mound of shelter near his monastery. He understands everything. He greeted him and asked how his uncle could get salvation. Kapil Muni proposed to him to bring the Ganges to Prithvi and orgnize hais rituals there so that his water could release him.

Nice place, a pilgrimage, one must know the story of Bhagirath, Ganga and Kapil Muni. The place where the forefathers of Bhagirath got moksha from the curse of Kapil Muni. A very interesting story, full of values. This is a historic as well as religious place. This is newly built temple because original Kapil muni temple had been submerged into sea.

Kapil muni was a great philosopher founder of Sankhya jog. It is hundred metres away from bay of Bengal sea beach. Huge number of pilgrims are coming every day especially weekend day. This hindu temple is situated at the edge of India, on an island named GangaSagar.

Very old mandir of Kapil Muni is situated on the bank of Bongopsagar. Here every year the famous Sagar mela used to organized. From the state govt of WB there are lots of quality service has been provided for pilgrims. The Kapil Muni mandir is developed in a modern style. There are shops to buy Prasad candle, inscene sticks and other pujo materials.

There are separate entrance and exit to control mob at the time of Sagar mela. Hospital, drinking water, changing room, car parking, bus stand, sitting place etc is already done by the govt.

Lots of other new constructions are ongoing. Hopefully the mob of lacks pilgrims will be benifited by this. Kardam Muni, made a pact with Vishnu that he would undergo the rigours of marital life,. A fantastic place for outing, but not on this time, else its so quiet and divine place compared to other beaches. Also the water of the sea in here is to clear and hygiene. A natural fenomena that is why water comes up to the temple after makar Sankranti and its religious occasion.

More than 30 lakh pilgrims took a holy dip today 15th January in ganga where it meets with sea like every year. They offer their puja to the temple of Kapil Muni situated in the bank of sea. Administration put their best efforts to care them and provide all the besic services to them. Temple of Kapilmuni who was a mythical figure. It is said that when king Sagar performed the Ashwamedh Yagna, Indra stole his sacrifical horse and kept it in Kapilmunis Ashram. The sons of Sagar came searching for the horse and caught Kapilmuni as the theaf.

Kapilmuni then cursed the sons of Sagar and they became ashes. He said they will go to heaven only if Ganga comes here. Their great grandson Bhagirath braught Ganga from Kailash and saved their soul.

Therefore this place is considered to be a holy place. A pilgrimage spot situated at the confluence of river Ganga with the Bay of Bengal.

This is the place where ancestors of Bhagirath were burnt to ashes by Kapil Muni. Later Bhagirath performing severe tapasya brought Ganga to earth and to this place.

This place is called Gangasagar. Gangasagar fair is held on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on 14th Jan and Lacs of devotees take holy dip at the confluence.

This is the second largest congregation of mankind after Kumbhmela. He was Avataar of Vishnu. Kardam Rishi had nine daughters also. After the birth of Kapil, Kardam Muni went to forest for Tap. Later he preached Saankhya Yog to his mother. Once he was sitting in Samaadhi in his Aashram, that Raajaa Sagars 60, sons came there in search of their fathers Yagya horse. They found it tied with a tree nearby him, so they thought that Kapil Muni had stolen it.

They started telling him some bad words. Kapil Muni opened his eyes and all of them were burned to ashes. Then Raajaa Sagar sent his grandson Anshumaan in search of his 60, sons.

He traced his uncles footsteps and arrived at Kapil Munis Aashram. He saw a mound of ashes near his Aashram. He understood everything. He greeted him and came to know the fate of his uncles. He asked him as how he could give them Mukti emancipation. Kapil Muni suggested him to bring Gangaa on Prithvi so that her water can give them Mukti. Such a wonderful spot, The temple location is amazing, getting down from a bridge crossing the river and climbing up steep steps from the river bed.

Being a steep staircase, not sure if elderly or people with knee problems should do this - although being a religious place, cannot comment. The surroundings are beautiful and we went in the summer so the river was good for a bath. However, as is the issue with all religious places, there was scant regards for maintaining the cleanliness of either the river or surroundings in such a forest areas. During religious festivals or such season, there could be high rush and time taken for darshan might run into hours we took around 45 minutes with people filling only the steep staircase.

His wish was finally granted with the birth of Kapil Muni.

King Sagar is the other indispensable character whose name itself is a source of inspiration of the name Gangasagar. This Ayodhyan king was peforming his th Ashwamedha yajna when Lord Indra intervened. Fearing that he might lose his throne if Sagar acquired too much piety, Lord Indra hid the sacrificial horse under the Kapil Muni ashram Patal.
