What makes pentecostal different
This author is not educated in the Pentecostal doctrine of Trinitarian believers. John 3 verse 5. Then they are not Baptist! They just say they are!! The person who wrote this, is being too simple. The closest way for me to express it, a Rock Star has fans, some of the fans jumb up and down, just because the Rock Star looked at them.
Me, God not only at me, he touch me, talks to me, and like that tells me I am his own. If there are no wemon pastors, then who is Joyce Meijer? One of our pastors is a woman. Her mother was also a pastor. Where do you people get your information? These are today livin that was back in the old days how women suppose to dress. Today u can wear dress casual but not short short dress.. Ladies Pastor Preach just as hard as Men I am talking about Pentecostaland some bapists do not want u to speak in tongues in they church I know some.
If those who cannot control their penis how will they control the future. They want to chat because you are ugly as sin itself. And the pootangpribsbly smells as well. God will use anyone who loves him for his glory. But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silent in church and speak to himself and to God. That chapter is speaking about order in the church and that chapter is also speaking about the GIFT of tongues like prophecy which God grants to a vessel he chooses and the sign of being baptised in the Holy Spirit 1 Corinthians It is a blessing to hear that there are alot of people who believe in the manifestations instead of tearing them to shreds.
Im a revolutionary that believes that just as in the bible, can still happen now if we have faith in it. Im an independant baptist. Try to be fundamental. Its not that we sont beleive in the holy spirit but rather our interpretation of what exactly happened on the day of pentacost is different from the pentacostal movement.
You beleive speaking in tongues is evidence of the holy spirit but i beleive its a learned skill. To me as a baptist, the evidence of the holy spirit is to be like Christ. Having the fruits of the spirit. John Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, 1 Corinthians For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God.
Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. Even Christians sin, because we are trapped in these sinful, evil bodies. NO human can worship his or her way to perfection, even one who is Saved. That is a lie. It actually frowns on it. It also says the man is the head of the house…. Better read the kjv bible because the Baptist church is teaching a phony trinity Lie! Just like the Catholic church have you never read john john 1 John kjv he is antichrist that denith the Father and Son they are one!
I grew up in an assemblies of God church and still consider myself to be Pentecostal. We definitely believe in speaking in tongues, but the clothing for women thing is outdated. Since I started in church around — I am 36 , women have always been fashionable. Various lengths of dresses, pants, and now even jeans in church. I am welcome at my church now even with my tattoos, facial piercings, and funky colored hair.
The Bible says to come as you are so sure they would accept you any way that you came. Once your saved and your a totally new person and you read your Bible and you know better then you would know women are not to wear pants. As long as they are not provocative or revealing, I personally believe it is ok.
What is worse, normal, non-provocative jeans, or a short, tight, revealing dress? Pants themselves are not evil things! The way that they are worn can be bad, and that goes for all types of clothing,. You might think well they do now. You may also think well they created individual pants for women and for men.
Or does it stick on some like a parasite??? Have a blessed night everyone. The Bible also states if one of your eyes cause you to sin, pluck it out! Why are these men looking, and blaming the woman for their weaknesses. You guys should wear sheets from head to toe too. Women are being tempted as well! These so called Baptists and Pentecostals alike need to stop it and go to God for deliverance!
Great point! We should be careful not to temp men or women with our clothing or attitudes. And as for wearing pants well men were punished by having to work for the things they need to live and women pain of child bearing and yes being a companion to man.
Carlos, Incidence of rape amongst Muslim women is lowest because of the burka and scarf? Given the tragic shackles that most Muslim women are subject to and the allowance of a Muslim man having for wives and the triple talaak the saying of talaak or divorce thrice by a muslim husband to his wife to effect a Divorce and the number of children most Muslim women have to bear all over the world, your statement needs revising.
I am a Baptist out of India who believes that every Believer in essence needs to be believe in the Pentecost. I agree with your view about women being aware of the effect thier dressing has on all men. I Believe in thy Lord Yeasterday, today, and Tomorrow. Question to ponder, if everyone around you speaks the same language, what good is it to speak in another that nobody understands?
How is God glorified or is it just the person that gets the praise and congratulations for being now better than those dirty Baptist like myself that has only spoken English all my life and foolishly believe that my faith in the only begotten Son of God has saved me and not by any part of my own!
Ask God to forgive you and strengthen you, then move on and try to do better and it that fails, refer to the first solution:. They that lead thee cause us to err. He is antichrist that denith the Father and Son.
I wanted to add that yes, we are a noisy church. Better stay away from that strange fire. The flesh profited nothing. IFB are severely strict. An old-fashioned Pentecost is like that also. But the other 3 had no excuse for it, so if you have any answers, share them.
Baptist seem totally different now that when I was growing up. I read your posts and thought you might allow another perspective, a food for thought.
In almost any American congregation, we can find someone like him sitting there religiously. We can also find these humans at the bar, the game or the party, because the thinking pattern is common.
A church that has mostly these three types involved in it seems to need HIM more than another one might. To keep it would lose it, HE said those words to us not me. So those talkers out there, need to see the why of their fail. That is basically our job, to show them actual CHRIST-like ness, so they can see the real difference between flesh, and self-lessness. That is how we are sinless- because like the dirt under Moses feet was holy dirt on account of GOD being there, it is GOD being there that makes a thing holy.
Methodist are more laid back then Baptist. I think my Old Baptist church is leaning Pentecostal and is no longer the Baptist church I knew growing up. I am and always will be Primitive Baptist.. No the particular church that I attend does not believe in women preachers.. We dress modestly in what ever type of clothing we want as long as we are covered…and to say that you can get saved without the Holy Ghost.. God will repramand his children…And anyone who wants to attend our baptist church is more than welcome and you will be acceppted without judgement.
Now as far as this comparing religion I feel its stupid as long as we all have a common goal and live by the word and Believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and he died for our sins and was resurected..
This author is completely wrong. I have worshiped in both baptist and pentacostal churches. First of all pentacostals and baptists do have the same belief of trinity and being saved by faith of Jesus crucified, repentance and prayer. Pentacostals dont believe baptism in the holy spirit is required for salvation but is a gift from God that will help draw you closer to him and help with your service in the Lord.
Pentacostals dont put more emphasis on the holy spirit, they believe the holy spirit is how God moves people on this earth. The emphasis is on the cross and Jesus crucified as is the baptist. Both allow women preachers in certain circumstances and how a woman dresses has changed with the times.
Pentacostals do not believe someone has to remain sinless after they are saved. This is impossible as we are all sinners and will continue to sin. Repentance is what keeps your salvation. Once saved always saved is ridiculous. If you turn away from Jesus and denounce your faith how are you saved?
Very well said. I was raised in a Baptisit. The worship service is about the same. We read from the same bible, sing the same sonsgs, pay tithes and offerings.
I love the Lord and I love all that goes with it. I was taught love, Jesus, God at both and thats what matters to me.
God Bless. Oh sorry I do notice one difference. Not saying Baptists dont, Im just saying if you come to church sick the pastor will lay hands and pray for your healing.
This is done at the Altar every Sunday. Everything is done through the power of prayer. The belief in the Trinity depends on the type of Pentecostal. Agreed — very well stated. Lots wrong with this article, but the comments have been just great! That includes Christians, as we are still trapped in these sinful, evil bodies. I have struggled with the church all my life.
I have always gone to Baptist church and have gotten the snubs and lots of other things I would just rather not discuss. I had an eye opening seeking my home church when I entered the Pentacostal church not even realizing it was a Pentacostal church recently.
I have never fealt more at home and at peace then I do in this church with these people who do not match the discription above. These Pentacostal that I know so far love Jesus and come together to praise together and be joyful. The rulers of the darkness of this world have set up phony teachers and preachers! Just like their phony trinity Lie! Have you never read the kjv john john or 1 John he is antichrist that denith the Father and Son.
Better get you a kjv bible and seek out your own salvation with fear and trembling!!! Where do you get your info? Let us not quarrel or see the diffrences about other religions, what matters most is we are obeying, recieving, praying, loving, thanking and living in the will of God. The trinity is a big Lie! But I have found that other churches are teaching another gospel the true gospel is 1 Corinthians better be careful what you set under the rulers of the darkness of this world have set up phony teachers and preachers all over better get a kjv bible read john john and 1 John he is antichrist that denith the Father and Son.
And this is true, However the bible does teach the trinity. In order to understand this you simply must read the word. The trinity is like a piece of pie. While you can cut 3 separate pieces, each piece is still part of the same pie. Read mathew , 2 corinthians , colossians , philippians These will help you get started but there are several other verses as well. There were several occasions where Jesus talk to God referring to Him as His father. When Jesus was baptized, a voice from heaven said this is my beloved son in whom i am well pleased.
Folks, Jesus is not a crazy man who talks to Himself. Very much evidence to prove the oneness movement wrong. And if nothing else…. According to Matthew and 1 John , I believe those who appear to have lost their salvation were never born again in the first place. Pentecostalism adherents identify four main reasons for the belief in divine healing.
One of the reasons is that the concept is included in the Bible and also the healing ministry of Jesus is part of his atonement. Thirdly, "the whole gospel is for the whole person" that is the spirit, soul, and body. Fourthly, sickness is as a result of the Fall of Man and salvation remains the only means by which the fallen world will be restored. Physical and spiritual healing for Pentecostals is a testament to the future return of Jesus when his followers will be delivered from all the repercussions of the fall.
Not everyone is restored physically however when they pray, and Pentecostals believe that God in his wisdom decides who to grant or not to grant healing. Reasons, why an individual may not be granted healing, include inadequate faith of the sick individual, God instructs through healing personal sin, and healing is not always immediate.
Pentecostals further believe that prayer is central in acquiring healing. The scriptures instruct that a person can pray for their own healing, for the healing of other people, or through congregational healing prayer.
Early Pentecostals viewed the act of taking medicine or receiving medical care from doctors as sinful. Although the believers have moderated this view, a minority of Pentecostal congregations continue to depend on divine healing. According to the Pentecostal beliefs, the second coming of Crist is soon and imminent, and therefore each moment for Pentecostals is eschatological as Jesus might return at any time. This belief motivates Pentecostals to live a Christian life in such manner as faithful Christian service, congregating for worship, personal holiness, and personal and international evangelism.
Baptism in the Spirit is not a conversion experience; a person must already have been converted before they can receive baptism in the Spirit. Pentecostals believe that baptism in the Spirit is an essential part of salvation. Traditionally this is a second baptism that follows conventional water baptism, although some passages of scripture reverse this sequence.
Baptism in the Holy Spirit is an experience in which the believer gives control of themselves to the Holy Spirit although not in a way in which they lose their own identity and autonomy. Through the experience they come to know Christ in a more intimate way and are energised with the power to witness and grow spiritually.
Spirit baptism is believed to be an action of God's grace, but one that is available only to people who put themselves forward to receive it:. Analogous with water baptism, a person baptised in the Spirit feels themselves to have been totally immersed in the Holy Spirit. But the analogy fails at that point, because a person who is baptised in the Spirit is also completely filled with the Holy Spirit, in the same way as the disciples of Jesus on the day of Pentecost.
The proof of having been baptised in the Spirit is speaking in tongues. Speaking in tongues is the only consistent event associated with baptism in the Spirit in the various Biblical accounts of the phenomenon. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles.
For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is not a temporary state of affairs; a person who has been baptised in the Spirit is believed to have the Holy Spirit within them to empower and guide them for the rest of their life.
The Baptism is the entry experience introducing the believer to the beauty and power of the Spirit-filled life. The Holy Spirit will enable the believer to turn away from their old worldly life and live a new Christian life.
As St Paul put it:. But as well as giving a new beginning to the believer, baptism in the Spirit gives them gifts of the Spirit which they are expected to use to bring others to faith, and generally to further Christian work.
The gifts of the Spirit are supernatural abilities given to believers by God. These gifts demonstrate the power of God and are used for particular purposes such as healing the sick, and generally helping the believer in their Christian ministry. St Paul listed the gifts of the spirit as love, prophecy, healing, wise speech, faith, miraculous powers and ecstatic speech. In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.
Speaking in tongues means speaking miraculously in a language unknown to the speaker, "as the Spirit gives utterance". It first happened to the disciples on the day of Pentecost. Speaking in tongues can be either evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, or a demonstration of the gift of tongues.
Theological texts also use the word glossolalia to refer to speaking in tongues. This word is sometimes restricted to ecstatic speech in non-existent languages. They do, of course, have rituals and ceremonies like communion and water baptism that other churches treat as sacraments, but Pentecostals refer to these as ceremonies or ordinances. Ordinances, like sacraments are visible representations of invisible realities. Some Pentecostal churches practise foot-washing as an ordinance of humility in their services.
In doing so they follow the instructions of Jesus, who washed the feet of his disciples at the Last Supper. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet.
I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. Prayer cloths are small cloths like handkerchiefs that are used in healing.
The practice is based on this passage of scripture:. God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them.
The healer prays over the cloth which is given to the sick person, who may bring it close to the afflicted part of their body. The famous American Evangelist, Oral Roberts, had a "ministry of prayer cloths" in which he sent anointed cloths to anyone who asked for prayer. Each cloth carried this message:. I prayed over this cloth for God to deliver you--use as a point of contact Acts Oral Roberts, Tulsa 2, Oklahoma.
It is not necessary to wear the cloth unless you feel you should. It can be used more than once or for more than one person. If you wish to request more, I will be glad to send them to you. The important thing is to use the cloth as a point of contact for the release of your faith in God, so that when you pray and put the cloth on your body, you will believe the Lord will heal you at that moment.
I have prayed over this cloth in the name of Jesus of Nazareth and asked Him to heal you when you apply it to your body. Prayer cloths were particularly popular in the first part of the twentieth century, but they are still used today.
Prayer cloths are also used by Mormons and Seventh Day Adventists. Latter rain is a term referring to the new outpouring of the Holy Spirit on today's Pentecostals. The events of Pentecost are known as the former rain.
The idea of latter rain comes from this Old Testament text, which precedes Joel's prophecy that God will pour out his Spirit on all people:. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before.
The early Pentecostals were keen to connect their own experience of the Spirit with that of the disciples, so they interpreted Peter's quoting of Joel's prophecy in Acts 2: as a further prophecy that God would pour out his Spirit again at a later time. They interpreted the pouring out of the Spirit on the day of Pentecost as the early autumn rain, and the second pouring out of the Spirit, that they were experiencing, as the later spring rains; the Latter Rain.
The idea of latter rain is found throughout Pentecostalism, but the Latter Rain Movement, founded in , teaches that the second coming of Jesus is due to happen soon and that latter rain is evidence for this. They justify this using scripture. Some Pentecostal churches engage in the dangerous practice of handling poisonous snakes during services; teaching that doing so successfully was a gift of the Spirit.
They base this practice on Mark ; "they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all". Although this practice has been given sensational publicity in the media, it was always extremely rare, restricted to small sects, and largely disapproved of by the larger Pentecostal denominations.
Pentecostalism began among poor and disadvantaged people in the USA at the start of the Twentieth century. Although the movement is a modern one its foundation is usually taken to be the American Azusa Street revival in the first decade of the 20th century , its roots go back to the 18th century Wesleyan Holiness tradition, the 19th century Holiness movement and the late-Victorian Keswick Higher Life movement.
Most Pentecostals believe in the doctrine of the Trinity, in which there is one God who is eternally existent in three forms, the Father, Son and Holy Ghost. While they acknowledge this to be a mystery, they maintain that God is one in essence, manifested in three forms.
Apostolic Pentecostals deny the historic doctrine of the Trinity. In their view, God is one in every sense of the word. They further believe that there is no difference whatsoever between the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, believing that each is simply a manifestation of Jesus. For this reason, Apostolic Pentecostals are often referred to as Oneness Pentecostals. While all Pentecostals believe in baptism in the Holy Spirit with the initial physical evidence of speaking in tongues, most Pentecostals believe this experience to be separate from salvation.
Trinitarian Pentecostals believe that salvation occurs when you accept Jesus Christ as savior, basing this belief on John and similar passages of Scripture.
